A useful cut list gives each distinct material and size its own line. Keep part identifiers consistent between the list and the drawing so the same piece can be found in both.
Include these fields
- Part name or identifier and drawing revision.
- Material, profile, grade reference and required condition.
- One explicit unit system for each line.
- Cross-section dimensions and cut length. Include wall thickness for tubes and a section designation for angle or channel when known.
- Quantity of identical pieces.
- Required tolerance, finish and documentation.
Example: a rectangular blank
Part A-01 — 6061 aluminum plate — T651 requested — 0.25 in thick × 12 in wide × 24 in long — quantity 4. Add the required tolerance separately. This example illustrates how to write a line; it is not an availability statement.
Resolve conflicting dimensions
If a drawing and spreadsheet disagree, identify the controlling document before sending the request. Mark superseded revisions clearly. Keep overall project instructions separate from requirements that apply to one part.
Use the builder or your own list
You can enter pieces individually, import a compatible CSV into the cut list builder, or attach a drawing or spreadsheet for review. Check imported units, quantities and dimensions before submitting.
